WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF GASTROENTEROLOGY?
Gastroenterology is the division
of medicine that is concentrated on the digestive
system and its disorders. Gastroenterology as well helps us to learn the
normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon
and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It comprises a thorough
understanding of the normal action of the gastrointestinal organs as well as
the movement of material through the stomach and intestine, the breakdown and
absorption of nutrients into the body, elimination of waste from the system,
and the purpose of the liver as a digestive organ.
Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract,
which comprise the organs from mouth into anus, along with
the alimentary canal, are the centre of this area. Medical doctors practicing
in this field are called gastroenterologists. Endoscopy is a sub-specialty of
gastroenterology that centres it’s attention on the advanced innovative
endoscopic methods for the treatment of pancreatic, hepatobiliary,
and gastrointestinal disease. Hepatology,
or hepatobiliary medicine, includes the study of the liver, pancreas,
and biliary tree, and is usually considered a sub-specialty of gastroenterology;
however proctology encompasses disorders of the anus, rectum,
and colon and is reflected as sub-specialty of general surgery.
